“There is no fresh start. Lives carry on!” – Henry Francis, “Mad Men”, Season 4, Episode 13
“Mad Men” again provided its fans with an excellent and eventful season-ender last night. In an episode with many great lines, my top quotes go to:
“There is no fresh start. Lives carry on!” – Henry Francis…The consistently stellar actor Christopher Stanley delivered this line that captures much of the episode’s and series’ essence to Betty, who rationalized her impulsive firing of longtime nanny Carla by explaining her desire for a “fresh start.”
“No one’s ever on your side, Betty!” – Henry again, this time sarcastically expressing his pent-up frustration with the overused defenses of his increasingly difficult wife.
“I don’t want to ride an elephant. I want to fly a jet!” – Bobby Draper…Bobby wants to go on the new, exciting Disneyland ride Tomorrowland (also the name of this episode) instead of one featuring Dumbo. His youthful exuberance and optimism for the promising but largely unknown reflects his dad’s desire to seemingly reject his own complicated past and propose to Megan.
“I hope she knows you only enjoy the beginning of things!” – Faye Miller…Earlier in the season, Dr. Miller told Don that he would be married within a year. She demonstrates her psychological acumen again with this line, issued over the phone just after getting dumped by Don.
“Yes, they’re bigger.” – Joan Harris…Joan is (still) pregnant! This is good news for her husband Greg, who is sweatily using his brainless fingers as a army doctor in pre-quagmire Vietnam. The not so good news for Greg–that he has yet to learn–is that he is not the father of his wife’s baby.
Only about nine months until the Season Five debut…
